Welcome to Collision Course, a newsletter on technology, books, and good ideas. Technology shapes communication, culture, business, politics, and more. I write about the ways in which technology shapes, in Marshall McLuhan’s words, “the scale and form of human associations.”
Right now, I’m working on a “Great Books” project — a five-year program where I read around 125 classic books from around the world. Familiarity with the great works has social, civic, moral, economic, and progress-related benefits. Taken together, they give a fair history of humanity's inventing, improving, and imagining. They contain the intellectual ancestors to most of the big conversations happening today.
I’m Tommy Collison — I work on business and communications at Lambda School, which provides online technical training and career education that’s free until you get a great job. Before that, I wrote for The Tor Project, the Irish Independent, and the Sunday Business Post.
